at the Château du Plessis-Macé

Discover the Château du Plessis-Macé on a school trip. Pupils and teachers can take part in an activity suitable for primary or secondary level.

The whole team at the Château du Plessis-Macé is here to welcome you all year round, to share a fun moment with you on your school outing, just 15 minutes from Angers. The castle mediators have designed some activities suitable for different classes depending on the teaching objectives and school curriculum. The trip can be personalised to suit you: a whole day, with a lunch-time break for a picnic in the park, or a half-day. Pupils will take the lead role during their visit, thanks to specially staged areas, role play games and sensory activities.

The theatrical route

The theatrical route: nursery and primary school

Set out to discover the Middle Ages in a fun way, thanks to theatre!

The day revolves around 2 theatrical high points (1 h 30 mins in the morning and 1 h 30 mins in the afternoon) during which pupils follow characters from the Middle Ages played by two mediators. They’ll find out about the architecture of a fort and the daily life of its residents.

Step through a tale

Step through a tale: second year of nursery school to second grade

What if your school outing was based around tales set in an enchanted place, in the Maine-et-Loire area: the Château du Plessis-Macé!

Through four tales staged by two mediators, pupils from second year of nursery school to second grade will enjoy an immersive, theatrical experience and meet the characters from the tales. A mediation activity can be added to complete the day. It will allow the children to understand how the tales came about and the role they can play in people’s lives.

CAPACITY: 40 children for the indoor route and 65 for the outdoor route

DURATION:
A half-day (1 h 15 mins) or a day (10:15 – 15:15) with an addition mediation based on the tales.

• Stimulate the memory and knowledge of popular tales (Goldilocks and the 3 bears, Jack and the beanstalk etc.)
• Instill concepts of French and history
• Develop the imagination
• Raise awareness of theatre

Heritage and history route

Heritage and history route: Two final years of primary school to seventh grade

Discover medieval society by taking the immersive heritage and history route, while strolling around the Château du Plessis-Macé.

Each route has been designed in relation to a theme from the school curriculum.

Trimester 1 (from September to December): Authority and military power in the Middle Ages
By portraying a character from the feudal society, pupils will understand the hierarchical organisation of the kingdom and its military issues.

Trimester 2 (from January to March): Diet in the Middle Ages
Pupils will discover the role each person played in society and how food affected various areas of the private life but also how it affected opening up to the outside world.

Trimester 3 (from April to May): Leisure and culture
To end the year, pupils will get acquainted with the games played by medieval lords. They’ll discover their symbolism and the heritage they left behind and that remains to this day.
